Ex Home Sergant, Duncan Torrance joined the Army in December 1944. The bookis wrtten up from a record kept in time. A description of life in a barrack room is followed by accounts of two war office selection boards for officers and training at an Officer Cadet Training Unit. Commissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and out to the Middle East. Then experience of riot control in Cario, follwed by a spell in the western Desert exhuming and identifying wartime casualties and re-burying then in Military cemeteries now in the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Then a short spell as adjutant on a troopship sailing in the Mediterranean, follwed by a period in Cario. Finally, back to graves work to work jointly with the RASF MIssing Research and Inquiry Service. This time in Bavaria, part of the American Zone of Germany. Demobbe January 1948, and still only 21.
